Review of Images Perdues Unseen by Stefano Rosatelli AKA joe Palermo

I think that if this very very short film if it is indeed yourdirection, Then it is quite the feat.Firstly, it's the first time that you used the male protagonist. Isthat now a statement of fact? Well if it is, it is clearly telling ussomething. Any story with a male protagonist within the urban context is veryinteresting to me. Though, countless films in the past hark back tothe genre this short story in it's forms, is largely well integratedto it's urban form. The pace and the score of the short film allude tothis. The hues of the visual impact all serve to tell it's story wellfor it's 6 or odd minutes. Therefore its is largely. relevant as astudy in it's form. The representation of the protagonist's subjectivity is crucial - hisperceptions (both accurate and deluded), his state of mind, hisdesires, obsessions and anxieties. The London based director skillfullyadapts this into hues of melancholy, alienation, bleakness, disillusionment, disenchantment, pessimism, ambiguity, moralcorruption, evil, guilt, desperation and paranoia that you get, issomewhat more less or present. But then again what film by StefanoRosetelli doesn't heighten bleakness and moral corruption and thepresent human condition. It seems that Rosatelli is contritelyattracted to all the forms that this condition entails. The use ofchiaroscuro effects, deep focus photography, extreme camera angles andexpressionist distortion, only heigthened this. The trademark female as a moral emptier of man scene is there, but inthis case is useful only for more what it doesn't say than for what itdoes about our lead character. Sometimes the dangerous woman is simplya sexual predator who tempts and weakens a male protagonist; sometimesshe actually imitates male aggression and appropriates male power.Rosatelli, skilfully adapts this in the frame, but leaves a question.Where was our lead? We are brought close to the mind of a protagonist whose position vis avis other characters is not fixed. Perhaps the, Italian director, intended this. But it leaves us with a suitable cliffhanger thatsurely has to be repeated to be clearly understood.
