David Worth: Director / DP / Author / Assistant Professor

Dear Friends & Fellow Filmmakers, kindly allow me a brief introduction:

I was the Director of Photography on two Clint Eastwood films, before moving into the Director’s chair and working as an independent Director / DP all over the world from: Hollywood to Hong Kong, Thailand to Indonesia, Italy to Israel, Cape Town to Bulgaria and back again.  I have worked with talents like Clint Eastwood, Shelly Winters, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Sondra Locke, Seymore Cassell, France Nuyen, Roy Scheider, Russell Wong, Dennis Hopper and Bruce Campbell.

While I do not have a formal degree, I do have what many have told me is equivalent to, a “Ph.D.” in professional filmmaking experience, that comes from an extensive career that spans over thirty years and well over thirty international feature films.

Over the past several years I have been transitioning into academia.  I have been an assistant professor at Chapman University in Orange CA and in 2008 / 2009 completed a year teaching at Chapman’s new facility in Singapore, where I also lectured at the NYU TischAsia campus.  I’ve also taught at USC and I’m presently in the Film Department at UCLA and The Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

You will see by my CV, that I have been the Director of Photography on over twenty five feature films and the Director on well over a dozen more.  My first textbook: The Citizen Kane Crash Course In Cinematography… was published in 2008 and is available on www.amazon.com

After decades of hands on experience, as a professional Director and Director of Photography and several years of solid academic accomplishments, I believe that I am exceptionally qualified to become a vital part of any film production or academic institution anywhere on the planet.

My Philosophy: "We must always respect, study and learn from the visionary filmmakers of the past who struggled, sacrificed and paved the way for what we are doing today.  We must also embrace the future and not cling to last century’s equipment, methods and techniques simply because they make us feel comfortable or nostalgic.

Over the past several decades filmmaking has become globalized and democratized.  Today we can say that we have begun to erase national, economic, ethnic and gender boundaries. Soon there will only be citizens of the world and potential filmmakers with compelling and diverse stories to tell.  As teachers and filmmakers we must make sure that each of their stories has a chance to be told.

For well over ten years we have been in the midst of an entirely new paradigm: non-linear editing, digital, High Def, DSLR and RED Camera capture, DIY distribution and delivery possibilities that range from, pay per view to the Internet to our cell phones and ipads.  The students of today must be prepared to become the filmmakers of tomorrow, they will face the challenges of a future that is not written in stone, but one that they will play a part in shaping, one that lies before us, fast approaching on the horizon…"

My professional job history and evidence of work in the field: Can be easily located on IMDb or on my Website: www.davidworthfilm.com which also contains My Portfolio in the form of my Director and DP Show Reels. It also has Production Photos, sample chapters from my book, DVD covers and more.

Thank you for taking the time to read this brief introduction and I will look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Most Sincerely,

David Worth
